Often called the 'Crossroads of the North' because of its location, Katherine is the fourth largest town in the Northern Territory and is located 312 kilometers south-east of Darwin on the Katherine River. The magnificent Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge National Park only 30kms from the town plays host to over 200,000 visitors each year and is one of the premier tourist attractions of the Katherine Region. The Nitmiluk Gorge has boat tours, canoe hire, hiking, helicopter flights and a visitors information centre. Other beautiful attractions in Katherine include the ancient Cutta Cutta Caves, Katherine Hot Springs, Jurassic Cycad Gardens, Historical Springvale Homestead and the Katherine River. The Katherine River winds through the centre of town perfect for barramundi fishing, swimming and canoeing.
